This year marks the
350th anniversary of the death of one of Britain's best keptchoral secrets. Thomas Tomkins (1572-1656), an unassuming
composer from StDavid's in Wales, wrote
wonderful sacred music for the English Chapel Royal and madrigals
for the court and was a student of the great William Byrd. Through
the Golden Age of Elizabeth I, and into the turbulent years of the
English Civil War, in this programme Antiphon explores the varied
musical genius of Tomkins and his talented contemporaries.
This concert will last just over one hour.
